Black and white engulfed the night sky, bright lights lit the city slowing to the darkening hours, and the sound of applause echoed out a large cast window four stories from the ground. A stage with two chairs lit up with overhead lights and the host greeted in her high voice, "And now, our esteemed guest, Black Cat, the foremost Sharpshooter in the world."
The air sat silent in awe, as the gazes of the audience laid upon the man sitting in the left chair. One foot sitting limply on the cushion propping up the stock of his rifle, the muzzle placed firmly by his right foot, the number thirteen etched in roman numerals at the barrels end – kissing each bullet with bad luck – and his bare white skin set off against the pitch black of his cloths.
"So," the anchor began, breaking the silence, "Why is it that they call you 'Black Cat'?"
Black Cat's eyes shifted over to her half mindedly, their deep blue almost completely hidden behind messy black hair. He let the question hang in the air for a minute before answering, "Because, I am thirteen, I bring bad luck unto others and myself… so they just call me Black Cat."
"Really, how is it you bring bad luck onto others?" she asked obliviously.
He let out a quiet, tired sigh and said, "Ask those that meet us… if you can find one still breathing."
His words hit the air tensely, and people shifted in their seats as his words hit them, leaving the host laughing nervously and trying to recover from his statement, "Well then, how about to yourself?"
Without missing a beat he responded, "That's a private matter, not one to be discussed."
"Ok then, how about we continue on a new subject then," she shifted as the queue changed questions and she read aloud, "How about the rumor that you never miss your target."
His eyes wandered to the night cast city outside the window and he let his thoughts drift for several minutes, leaving the room entangled in unease, and then answered, "It matters not if you are two yards from me or two kilometers from me, if you are my foe then you will die, I will not miss."
"You're quit confident in your abilities then, though, you definitely have reason to be, you are the best, right people," she asked raising her hand and raising the crowds spirits as the room filled with applause.
For a split second Black Cat's face expressed disgust but quickly went back to its null state before anyone noticed. He spoke quietly, but the presence of his voice silenced the room immediately, "Do you even understand what it is I do?"
The anchor looked over to him and answered hesitantly, "You're a…" and was cut off by Black Cat, "Sniper? That is simply the means at which I exercise that which I excel at, that which you applaud."
His words hit the audience with unease, leaving them perturbed and whispers erupting amongst them.
She tried to gather herself but found herself only able to say, "I'm afraid then that we don't seem to understand," confusion and anxiety tickling her voice.
He took in a deep breath and let it out quietly, his express entirely devoid of emotion as he enlightened them, "I am a murderer… a killer… I excel at killing," emphasis placed on the word declaring his skill, "And her you all sit, applauding in me, what you shun in another."
Just a short exert I wrote awhile ago and redid. nothing special, he is a military sniper, the worlds best and is sent out on assassination missions together with his partner White Cat. Made known publicly only because he affiliates with all sides, no specific country owns his cooperation, he himself decides by which side he believes to be right.
